Diary time again. Wednesday afternoon, I ended up doing something I had never done before, and the only reason was because the Pope was visiting America. Normally, I would be indifferent to such a thing, and it was exactly my complete indifference that drove me to this point. You see, when I eat lunch in my house, I eat in my living room, usually around 12.30 or 1.00, while I watch television, often the news. The state-run media in Canada (and the citizen-owned media who do their best to compete with them) all lament, daily (with intra-day lament updates, all day long), the price of a barrel of oil, and the resulting price of gas. (Of course they don’t have the foggiest clue what they’re talking about, but they pretend they do.) Even as I was writing this, the state-owned CBC did a story about the latest rise in gas prices. While Earth's average surface temperatures have been increasing, the interior of Antarctica has exhibited a unique cooling trend during the austral summer and fall caused by ozone depletion, said Judith Perlwitz of the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences, a joint institute of CU-Boulder and NOAA.

Haven’t done any stock trading for the past few weeks, as we’ve been busy packing and getting ready to move. Also, the market has been irrationally exuberant of late, staging big rallies on bad or nonexistent news. So, I’ll wait until it looks like a top, then buy more puts on financials, as I think there will be at least one more big downdraft.
